The Birth of Indian National Congress during 1885 and its present growth by the Guidance of Soniaji.

Dadabhai was one of the moving spirits and founder of the Indian National Congress. He took part in the inauguration of the Indian National Congress that was held in Bombay in 1885. Dadabhai was thrice elected President of the Congress.

Dadabhai Naoroji had attempted to keep the Freedom movement on a moderate path during the formative years of the Congress. He had put his faith in the British. He believed that if they were informed of India’s problems, they would reform their method of rule. However, his experience of the British political system and years of dealing with British officialdom led to increasing disillusionment. Dadabhai began to despair when even moderate claims were not considered. In 1904 Dadabhai demanded “SWARAJ” Self Government for India. Dadabhai said “Indians were British citizens with a birthright to be free” and that they had “every right to claim an honorable fulfillment of our British pledged rights”. -“It is futile to tell me that we must ait till all the people are ready. The British people did not -wait for their parliament”. “Self-government is the only and chief remedy. In self-government is our hope, strength and greatness”. “I am a Hindu, a Muslim, a Parsi, but above all an Indian First”.

The Indian National Congress (also known as the Congress and abbreviated INC) is a major political party in India. Founded in 1885 by Allan Octavian Hume, Dadabhai Naoroji, Dinshaw Wacha, Womesh Chandra Bonnerjee, Surendranath Banerjee, Monomohun Ghose,Mahadev Govind Ranade and William Wedderburn, the Indian National Congress became the leader of the Indian Independence Movement, with over 15 million members and over 70 million participants in its struggle against British rule in India. After independence in 1947, it became the nation’s dominant political party, led by the Nehru-Gandhi family for most of the part, challenged for leadership only recently.

At the 125th Foundation Day of the Congress Party in New Delhi on Monday 28-12-2009, Sonia, A.I.C.C. president while laying foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Congress HQ Sonia took pride in her tenacity and staying power to have weathered two Lok Sabha defeats before winning the 2004 and 2009 polls. “Doubts were raised about our party’s very existence. Nonetheless we soldiered on, anchored in our core values and overcame many seemingly insurmountable odds,” she said.

Sonia gamely shared the credit with PM Manmohan Singh, elaborating on how his stewardship had helped consolidate the electoral gains in her generous reference to Singh’s leadership of government. PM laid the foundation of the Indira Gandhi Bhawan, which will be the new headquarters of the AICC, at Kotla Road, New Delhi.
