CBI says there is enough proof to nail Maran brothers.மாறன சகோதரர்கள் குற்றவாளிக்கூண்டில் நிறுத்தப் படுவார்களா?

With Suneeta Reddy of Apollo Hospitals as a key witness in the 2G spectrum case, the CBI hopes to nail Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi and others in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

After several raids in various cities on Monday, sources said the CBI had collected enough evidence against Maran. Since the preliminary inquiry was registered, CBI teams collected documents from the department of telecom, RBI, Registrar of Companies and details of bank transactions made primarily through Standard Chartered Bank, which officials said provided enough evidence.

Also, the agency has statements of several DoT officials who claimed Maran had delayed the files of Aircel when Sivasankaran was its owner. A source claimed, “The documents and analysis by telecom department and Trai has also revealed that the cost of 2G licences would have been much higher if it was given to Sivasankaran.”

CBI has also collected documents from the telecom ministry, showing that Ralph Marshal and Ananda Krishnan had visited Dayanidhi Maran at his office several times.

About Suneetha Reddy, a CBI officer said, “She does not appear to be part of the company. She was just pursuing her business and she was not a beneficiary in the Aircel-Maxis deal. She was told that it is a profitable venture so she bought stake in the company”. Reddy was examined by the agency once. Officials said they would first question the accused persons and send letter rogatories (LRs) to Malaysia for details of Maxis. Reddy could be examined after that.

The agency had registered a case on Sunday 9-10-2011 against Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran, promoter of Maxis Ananda Krishnan and Ralph Marshal of Maxis and three companies – Sun Direct TV, Maxis Communications and Astro All Asia Networks. The agency alleged that Maran coerced Sivasankaran to sell his company and Maran misused his office. After Aircel was sold to Maxis, Maxis bought shares worth Rs 629 crore at premium rates in Syun Direct, a company owned by Marans.

DMK party chief M Karunanidhi said on Tuesday11-10-2011 that the action against Kalanithi and Dayanidhi Maran was part of a “conspiracy” to use the CBI against his party leaders.

CBI sources said they had enough evidence against Maran and the other accused, though the raids at Maran’s Chennai and Delhi residence did not yield any substantial documents. Let us wait for the truth.
