PM Modi to launch BJP campaign in Coimbatore

Coimbatore

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

The Cotton City is bracing up for the high-profile visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College on February 2. Politically, though, the visit is far more significant with assembly elections round the corner.

After inaugurating the `520 crore hospital, Modi will also attend a public meeting at the VOC ground here the same evening, party functionaries said.

This would be Modi’s first visit to Coimbatore after becoming Prime Minister and a crucial one for the BJP, coming at a time when the state is bracing up for assembly elections.

The public rally at VOC grounds will virtually be the launch of assembly election campaign for BJP. Modi’s last visit to Coimbatore was in 2014, soon after he was declared as the prime ministerial candidate. In fact, Coimbatore was one of the very few places in Tamil Nadu Modi had visited so far.BJP cadres, however, consider the proposed visit as a special one.

“Obviously because now he is visiting as a Prime minister. Besides that, during his two last visits, one to Rameswaram to pay tributes to former President Abdul Kalam and later to Chennai to assess flood damage, Modi did not address his party cadres or the public. In Coimbatore, he will be delivering a pub lic address,” said a party functionary .

The visit is also expected to boost the morale of the party’s functionaries.
